Veritas University - Auditorium und Workshops
ICESA, in collaboration with Carlos Azofeifa, designed the Auditorium and Design Workshops for Veritas University as a direct response to the school’s academic model centered on the creative disciplines.
The project is organized as two clearly differentiated wings: an auditorium and a set of workshops. Their placement responds to orientation and use. The auditorium, located to the north, is conceived as a compact, controlled volume, optimized for acoustic performance and thermal stability. The workshops, positioned to the south, are open, naturally lit spaces that support flexible use and visual continuity with the campus.
Between both wings, a triple-height central atrium acts as the main circulation and meeting space. Top lighting provides even, indirect illumination, while an asymmetric ramp connects levels and promotes continuous movement and interaction. This space extends the public realm of the campus and links the building to the university’s main square.
Material selection follows criteria of durability, cost control, and environmental performance. Corrugated zinc-aluminum cladding provides a lightweight, low-maintenance envelope with good solar behavior. Wood elements are introduced selectively to moderate the scale and improve the interior atmosphere.
The building is conceived as both infrastructure and teaching tool: its spatial organization, environmental strategies, and constructive logic are exposed and legible, aligning with the pedagogical approach of the institution.
